Powder coating is a unique technique of applying dry paint to a component. In normal wet painting, the solvents are suspended in a liquid carrier which must evaporate before the solid paint coating is made. But in powder coating, the paint is solvent-free and hence the process of evaporation is not needed.
In powder coating, the powdered paint may be applied by the following technique.
- The powdered paint is electrostatically charged and sprayed onto the component.
- The component is then placed in an oven and the powder particles are melted and coalesced to form a continuous film.
